Leather leggings, liquid spandex … call them what you want, but there’s no denying this trend’s growing presence on campus.
Though you may think the leather – or better yet, “pleather” – legging may seem more like an 80’s throwback than a modern accessory of choice, the fashion world surely would disagree. Everyone from Rihanna to Ashley Olsen has been spotted in the shiny legwear. The Hollywood version of the trend often includes pairing the leggings with sky-high, attention-grabbing heels. Though this statement look may be more suited for the urban jungle than Nassau Street, there is a low-key Princeton adaptation of the trend. The Princeton take on “liquid leggings” calls for simple accessories like ballet flats or even sneakers (so your feet can survive a full night of dancing on the Street, of course).
These shiny leggings also come in handy when last-minute costume parties roll around. They're perfect for dressing to the likes of Catwoman, a Charlie's Angel, or any other badass superhero that comes to mind. Or, forget the costumes and just wear them as you would any leggings. No one will know that you're secretly channeling your inner Halle Berry...
